Summary: LegalHub is a U.S.-based online legal directory and smart marketplace. We collect personal information to operate our directory, Q&A forums, intake forms, and attorney matching features; to support accounts and paid services; and to improve safety and performance. This Policy explains what we collect, how we use and share it, and your privacy rights. If you disagree, please do not use the Service.

1) Scope & Definitions

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) applies to personal information processed by LegalHub in connection with our websites, apps, communications, and related online services (collectively, the “Service”). This Policy does not apply to information processed by independent attorneys and law firms to whom you may be introduced through LegalHub; those parties are separate controllers/businesses responsible for their own privacy practices.

Definitions

  • “Personal information” means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or can reasonably be linked with a particular consumer or household.
  • “Sensitive personal information” includes data such as government IDs, precise geolocation, account logins with passwords, racial/ethnic origin, union membership, health information, or contents of communications where we are not the intended recipient.
  • “Sell”/“Share” have the meanings under California law. “Share” generally refers to cross-context behavioral advertising.

Your use of the Service is also subject to our Terms of Service.

2) Notice at Collection: What We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information. The examples are illustrative:

Identifiers

Real name, alias, username, email, phone, IP address, device IDs.

Customer Records

Account details, profile content, subscription status, payment tokens (processed by our processors).

Commercial Info

Transactions, premium feature purchases, ads/lead credits, interaction history.

Internet/Network Activity

Log data, pages viewed, referral URLs, cookies, pixels, session analytics.

Geolocation

Coarse location from IP; we do not collect precise geolocation unless you enable it.

Professional/Employment

Attorney license numbers, firm affiliations, practice areas, credentials (for claimed profiles).

Audio/Visual

Customer support recordings (where permitted), uploaded logos/images, optional video.

Inferences

Derived scores or segments for relevance, anti-fraud, or personalization.

Sensitive Data*

Login credentials; limited government ID for identity verification/anti-fraud when necessary. We do not want PHI/HIPAA data.

*We only use Sensitive Data for limited purposes (security, account access, verification, compliance) and do not use it for targeted advertising.

3) Sources of Personal Information

  • You (forms, intake, Q&A, messages, support, surveys).
  • Automated means (cookies, SDKs, server logs, analytics).
  • Third parties (payment processors, marketing partners, identity verification services, public attorney registries, and publicly available sources).
  • Other users (reviews, endorsements, Q&A posts).

4) How We Use Personal Information

  • Operate the Service. Provide directory, Q&A, intake, and attorney matching; maintain accounts; process payments through processors; provide support.
  • Improve & Personalize. Debug, analyze performance, enhance features, train models to improve search/matching, and personalize content consistent with your choices.
  • Safety & Compliance. Detect and prevent fraud, spam, abuse; enforce Terms; comply with legal obligations and bar advertising rules.
  • Marketing. Send service and marketing communications (email/SMS); show ads including cross-context behavioral advertising where permitted and subject to your choices.
  • Research & Analytics. Aggregate/ de-identify data to understand usage and trends.
  • With your consent. For any purpose you authorize at collection.

5) How We Share Personal Information

  • Service Providers/Processors. Hosting, analytics, communications, security, customer support, payment processing, and verification vendors under contracts limiting their use to our instructions.
  • Attorney Recipients. When you submit an intake or request to be contacted, we share your inquiry and contact details with relevant attorneys. Attorneys are independent businesses with their own privacy policies.
  • Advertising/Analytics Partners. We may disclose identifiers, device data, and browsing activity to facilitate measurement or targeted advertising (this may be considered a “sale”/“sharing” under certain state laws). See Your Rights.
  • Corporate Transactions. In mergers, acquisitions, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of the transaction.
  • Legal & Safety. To comply with law or protect rights, safety, and integrity of users, attorneys, and our Service.
  • With Consent. As directed or authorized by you.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of users under 16 years of age.

6) Cookies, Ads & Analytics

We and our partners use cookies, pixels, SDKs, and similar technologies to operate the Service, analyze engagement, remember preferences, and advertise. You can manage preferences via browser settings and our Privacy Choices page (if available), which may include a cookie banner or consent manager.

  • Analytics. We use analytics tools to measure traffic and usage trends.
  • Advertising. We may participate in interest-based advertising. Opt-out controls are available via Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information (CA) and industry tools (e.g., NAI/DAA).
  • Browser Controls. Blocking cookies may impact some features.

7) AI, Automation & Profiling

LegalHub uses algorithmic tools—including rule-based systems and machine-learning models—to improve search relevance, detect spam/fraud, and match user inquiries to attorneys by practice area and location. These processes may involve scoring or segmenting based on data you provide and data derived from your activity.

  • Human Oversight. We design our systems with human review for sensitive outcomes and safety checks.
  • Your Choices. You may opt out of cross-context behavioral advertising (see Your Rights). If you believe an automated outcome is erroneous, contact us and we will review.
  • Limits. We do not use Sensitive Data for targeted ads.

8) Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, maintain security, and for legitimate business interests. Retention periods vary by data type and context (e.g., account records vs. web logs). We may retain de-identified or aggregated data indefinitely.

9) Security

We employ administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Help protect your account by using strong, unique passwords and limiting access to your devices.

10) Children’s Privacy

The Service is intended for users 18+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

11) Your U.S. State Privacy Rights (CA/VA/CO/CT/UT and Others)

Depending on your state, you may have rights to:

  • Know/Access the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Delete personal information we collected from you, subject to exemptions.
  • Opt out of (a) selling or sharing personal information, and (b) targeted advertising and certain profiling.
  • Limit the use/disclosure of Sensitive Personal Information to necessary purposes.
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your rights (subject to permitted financial incentives).

How to Exercise

  • Submit a request at /privacy-requests or email privacy@legalhub.com.
  • To opt out of sale/sharing or targeted ads, visit /do-not-sell and adjust cookie preferences on our Privacy Choices page. We also process browser Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required—see Do Not Track & GPC.

Verification & Appeals

  • We may require sufficient information to verify your identity (e.g., email confirmation, logged-in request, or additional data). Authorized agents must provide proof of authority plus requester verification.
  • If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision email or writing to privacy@legalhub.com. We will explain our decision and how you can escalate to your state attorney general if applicable.

California “Shine the Light.” California residents may request a list of certain third parties to whom we disclosed personal information for direct marketing in the prior year by contacting us (subject to limits). Nevada. Nevada residents may opt out of the sale of covered information by emailing privacy@legalhub.com.

12) EEA/UK/Swiss Disclosures (GDPR)

Where the GDPR/UK GDPR applies, LegalHub acts as a controller for personal data we collect via the Service.

Legal Bases

  • Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): To provide the Service.
  • Legitimate Interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): Security, fraud prevention, service improvement, and marketing (balanced with your rights).
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Where required for cookies/ads or specific uses. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal Obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)): Compliance with laws, bar rules, tax/recordkeeping.

Data Subject Rights

You may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, or object to processing, and to withdraw consent. Submit requests to privacy@legalhub.com. You may lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.

International Transfers

We may transfer personal data to the U.S. and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) and supplementary measures.

13) Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control (GPC)

Our Service does not respond to browser Do Not Track signals. Where required by law, we honor valid Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as a request to opt out of sale/sharing for the device/browser sending the signal. You should also use our on-site controls to ensure your preferences persist across devices and sessions.

14) Text Messaging (SMS/MMS)

By providing a mobile number, you consent to receive texts regarding your inquiries, account, or marketing from LegalHub and participating attorneys (autodialed or prerecorded messages may be used). Message/data rates may apply. You can opt out of marketing texts anytime by replying STOP; for help, reply HELP. Transactional messages may still be sent.

15) International Transfers

We operate in the United States and may process information in countries with different data protection laws than your jurisdiction. Where required, we implement appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

16) Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice (e.g., by posting the updated Policy or emailing you). Changes are effective when posted unless otherwise stated. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect indicates acceptance.
